ACT Performing Arts Academy is proud to present our Kids in the Act Teen Youth Theatre’s production of Hadestown: Teen Edition.

Hadestown: Teen Edition is a full-length adaptation of Anaïs Mitchell’s Hadestown, modified for performance by teen actors for family audiences. This haunting, jazz-inflected folk opera follows Orpheus’ mythical quest to overcome Hades and regain the favor of his one true love, Eurydice.

This intriguing and beautiful folk opera delivers a deeply resonant and defiantly hopeful theatrical experience. Following two intertwining love stories – that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of immortal King Hades and Lady Persephone – Hadestown invites audiences on an incredible journey to the underworld and back. Inspired by Greek mythology mixed with the traditions of classic American folk music and vintage New Orleans jazz, Mitchell’s beguiling sung-through musical pits industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love.

The ACT Performing Arts Academy production features a cast of teens, ages 13 to 19, with performances running May 9th through May 14th, with two shows on May 9th.  Check Here for exact show times and ticket information.

Countless generations and young imaginations have been raised on the fairytales of Hans Christian Andersen. Now with music by legendary composer Frank Loesser and a new book by Timothy Allen McDonald (James and the Giant Peach JR.), Hans Christian Andersen JR.is a musical storybook that brings the tales (and their creator) to life onstage.

Hans Christian Andersen JR. tells the story of 13-year-old Christian, a boy who struggles with reading and writing but discovers a remarkable gift for storytelling. Narrators Crantz and Guilder guide us through the world and fairytales of Hans Christian Andersen, including “The Little Mermaid,” “Thumbelina,” and “The Ugly Duckling”. A misfit in a new city, Christian escapes his troubles through his stories. When his storytelling catches the attention of his teacher and even royalty, Christian realizes he has a special gift to share with the world. Hans Christian Andersen JR. is a timeless treasure you won’t want to miss.
